Ensuring Educational Stability for Students in Foster Care: The Role of the FYSCP Coordinator

College Counseling Tips for Students in Foster Care

Description: This webinar is designed to provide school counselors and others supporting students in foster care with tips and resources to ensure they are prepared and feel supported throughout the college planning process. Participants will learn about barriers that prevent students from applying to college and hear from other counselors and foster care alumni regarding best practices to help them complete college applications. Additionally, they will receive tips to help students research scholarships, apply for financial aid, and connect them to resources and support in college, specifically for students in foster care.

Trauma-Informed Self-Care for Educators

Trauma-Informed Practices for Schools Training of Trainers Professional Development Series

Description: This in-person training will provide a basic understanding of how trauma impacts student learning, the impact of trauma on the brain, an understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences, strategies and tips for helping students impacted by trauma, and Self-care and wellness tips for adults, and a facilitator’s guide and training materials. Trauma-Informed Practices: Responding to Human Trafficking in Schools

Description: This training will help participants use a trauma-informed lens to better understand how human trafficking impacts students in foster care and other vulnerable student groups. Participants will learn strategies and tips to address the needs of students affected by trauma and human trafficking and prevent it in schools. They will receive resources and other valuable materials to educate parents, caregivers, and others who support students.
FYSCP Regional Meetings
Regional meetings are intended for the local FYSCP coordinator in each county. Additional FYSCP staff may attend as needed. The FYSCP coordinator should attend the meeting for their designated region whenever possible and may attend one regional meeting for each fall and spring session.
