Creating Comprehensive and Effective Measurement Instruments: Part One

Description: The Legal Center for Foster Care and Education will present a two-part webinar and workshop on creating comprehensive and effect measurement instruments and surveys to assess program efficacy and gather qualitative feedback.
This webinar will include:
An overview of the importance of monitoring program efficacy through the development and implementation pre and post intervention surveys and tools.
A walkthrough of a comprehensive measurement building tool (“Evaluating the Impact of Education Interventions for California’s Students in Foster Care: A Menu of Measures” by Sophia Gatowski, Ph.D., Consultant, American Bar Association Center on Children and the Law).
A preview of sample tools and resources for difference types of interventions and audiences.

Differentiated Assistance and LCAP Development: Tools for Supporting Students in Foster Care

Description: This webinar will provide an overview of the Differentiated Assistance and the Local Control Accountability Plan processes in Kern County with an emphasis on youth experiencing foster care. Discussion will involve how these tools can be used by FYSCPs to help LEAs support students experiencing foster care. Kern’s FYSCP staff will also discuss initiatives such as the Dream Center for Foster Youth, Youth Empowering Success (YES!), and Youth Voice and Youth Advisory Boards as strategies LEAs can use as LCAP goals and assessment tools. This webinar is for FYSCP staff only.

Intro to Trauma-Informed Practices in Schools (Part 1)

Description: This training will provide participants with an understanding of trauma, its prevalence and impact on students and families, and what it means to be trauma-informed. Participants will learn about strategies for working with students affected by trauma and how to apply those strategies in a school setting. It will contain specific examples of how it impacts students in foster care and students experiencing homelessness but will provide valuable and practical tips for all students dealing with childhood trauma.

Trauma-Informed Leadership

Description: Leaders are tasked with the responsibility of making sure students, families, staff, and their stakeholders have what they need to be successful, but who takes care of leaders? Join us as we discuss the importance of using a trauma-informed lens to implement leadership. Taking care of others is important but taking care of yourself as a leader is just as essential. This training will provide tips, strategies, and best practices designed to ensure leaders know how to “put the oxygen mask on first” so they are able to continue supporting their staff and students. Participants will receive practical trauma-informed strategies related to the following:
How to model and embody trauma-informed care as a leader
Self-care strategies for leaders during stressful times
How to prioritize self-care for leaders
Creating emotionally safe environments for staff
Leading with love

This event is only for FYSCPs and their designated teams only.

1-2-3 Wellness Connected Community Series
You deserve to be supported. Heard. Seen. Appreciated….and learn wellness tools. Connected Community monthly sessions are an EXCELLENT opportunity to connect with other passionate, hard-working colleagues while learning powerful self-care tools to support your impactful work as an FYSCP, teacher, administrator, or counselor. FYSCP TAP offers these 2022-2023 Zoom sessions in partnership with 1-2-3 Wellness on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
During our Connected Community sessions, we'll learn powerful well-being tools, stress reduction techniques and brainstorm solutions to practical issues. One-on-one coaching is also available.
You’re invited to attend as many or as few Connected Community Sessions as you’d like. You are welcome to share or simply listen.

Foster Parent and Caregiver Adult-Self Care Experience

Description: This powerful wellness experience is for foster parents and caregivers because YOU deserve wellness too! The opportunity involves three 1.5-hour workshops. Each person will learn simple, yet game-changing wellness tools, receive amazing resources and be guided to create their own personalized self-care plan. Parents and caregivers will learn daily stress reduction techniques, self-care tools, how to help create an environment of calm for others, research-based approaches wellness and processing thoughts in healthy ways, self-compassion and more.

FYSCP Regional Meetings
Regional meeting attendance is a grant requirement for all FYSCPs. The meetings are intended for the FYSCP primary coordinator contact. Additional FYSCP staff may attend as needed. The FYSCP coordinator should attend the meeting for their designated region whenever possible and may attend one regional meeting for each fall and spring session.
